The Co-Founders
The Institute for Life & Care (ILC) was started in 2007 by two leaders in the community who recognized the increasingly critical role CareGivers play in our society. Learn more about the co-founders and their mission by reading the Message from the Co-Founders.
LaFawn H. Biddle has been a pillar in the Colorado community in many different capacities for over 50 years. LaFawn has held leadership positions in more than 15 organizations serving in the areas of health care, education, hearing impairment, abused and neglected children, and elders, just to name a few. LaFawn attended Abilene Christian University and worked as a radio personality in Texas before settling in Colorado and making a difference in the lives of thousands of citizens. She was named a "Person of the Year" and has received many honors for her lifetime of service to the community.
LaFawn is the Chair of the Institute for Life & Care Board of Directors.
Nancy Markham Bugbee , MA, MBA, BCCC. Nancy genuinely loves to help people become all they were created to be. She is passionate about the divine/human relationship and how love, faith, hope and living with purpose can make a difference in peoples' lives. She enjoys music, animals, learning, and spending time with family and friends. Nancy is crazy about her family, and is mother to daughters Megan and Kristin, and son, Andrew.
Nancy is a Chaplain, Spiritual Director and Christian Church (DOC) Clergy. Her background includes positions over 20 years in higher education and business before beginning community ministry. From 1999 to 2007 she served as a Spiritual Director in private practice; and, from 2003-2007 as a Senior Chaplain for North Suburban and Sky Ridge Medical Centers (HealthOne). She co-founded ILC with LaFawn Biddle in 2007 and is a full-time employee, serving as both CEO and faculty member. She is a Board Certified Clinical Chaplain, by the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP). She holds an M.B.A. from Simmons College Graduate School of Management (Boston), an MA in Spiritual Direction and Leadership from Regis University (Denver), as well as a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Vincentian Studies Institute. Nancy studied counseling at Denver Seminary and participated in three summer Institutes in Faith, Health, and Spirituality at Andover-Newton Theological School, Boston. Nancy has served on numerous non-profit Boards over the last 20+ years.
Nancy is the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Life & Care.
Faculty
ILC has seven distinguished faculty members drawn from several CareGiving disciplines including: university teaching, health care, education, chaplaincy, counseling, and community leadership. Combined, the faculty represents over 250 years of professional experience.
All are involved in supporting various community interests and, of course, their own families. They know first-hand that CareGivers need to be cared for.
Dr. Barbara M. Dalberg , PhD, MA, LPC, BCCC. Barbara loves learning, reading and sharing with others. Her interests include: good music, books, and interacting with people, especially building relationships. She loves to enrich peoples' lives with values and beliefs that strengthen and open them to their potential. Barbara is mother to sons Steffon, and Gerald, and daughter, Jeanine.
Barbara is a Psychotherapist in private practice in Denver. She received a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Colorado at Denver and a Doctorate of Health Psychology from the Columbia Pacific University of San Rafael, California. Barbara also teaches Religious Studies and Psychology at Regis University in Denver. She is an ordained lay minister. Barbara is a Board Certified Clinical Chaplain, a Diplomate in the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP) and is a Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor. She has also served on several non-profit Boards.
Dr. David L. DeBord , PhD, MDiv. David genuinely loves people. He enjoys learning and teaching about all aspects of what it means to be human. He enjoys outdoor activities like biking, camping, hiking, as well as musical involvement in singing and playing guitar. David is father to son Mark, and daughter Lori.
David has been in church leadership for over 30 years. He has extensive teaching experience in the fields of psychology, pastoral counseling and theology. He has held numerous leadership positions in community and public affairs, and has many presentations and publications to his credit. David is also a Pastoral Counselor with Pastoral Counseling of Denver, is a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and a member of the Society for Pastoral Theology. David received his PhD. from the Iliff School of Theology, and his MDiv. from Nazarene Theological Seminary.
Kelby K. Cotton, MDiv. Kelby is passionate about bringing beauty to others. He loves opera, learning classical and spiritual wisdom traditions, celebrating St. Patrick's Day, and spending time with family and friends. Kelby is father to son Kristian and daughter Emily.
Kelby has been in leadership positions for over 30 years. He is currently the Pastor of Spiritual Formation at South Suburban Christian Church in Littleton, Colorado. He earned his Master of Divinity degree at Princeton Theological Seminary, has an extensive teaching background, and specializes in the life and work of Thomas Merton. Kelby also leads retreats for Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox groups.
Linda G. Holloway , MH, MT-BC, BCCC. Linda is passionate about music as a healing, therapeutic tool, especially for the benefit of elders. She cares deeply about all things regarding the elderly from psycho-social well-being, to Alzheimer's care, to entertainment, and intergenerational programs. Linda is mother to four-legged friend , Beau.
Linda is co-founder and co-director of Bessie's Hope (formerly Rainbow Bridge), a non-profit organization, which enhances the lives of nursing home and assisted-living elders bringing generations together in mutually rewarding relationships. Her education includes Bachelor degrees in music education and music therapy, and a Master's Degree in Humanities. Certifications include Board certification as a music therapist and as a Clinical Chaplain. For many years Linda has also been a professional musician/entertainer/ composer, a music therapist, a church music director, and a workshop presenter on the healing and therapeutic powers of sound and music.
G. Kae L. Madden , MA. Kae loves the privilege of entering into stories of others and calling forth the gifts within. She experiences joy when doors open and lights turn on with new insights and awakenings in others' personal journeys. She has been involved in adult education, facilitation of groups, engaging community, retreat ministry, and exploring spirituality for over twenty-five years. Kae is married, the mother of daughters and a grandmother.
Kae has a Masters of Arts Degree in Adult Christian Community Development from Regis University. She is ordained and serves as pastor of Church of the Beloved in Northglenn, Colorado; and is founder of The Word Proclaimed, a media ministry.
Kae also serves as Program Director on the staff of the Institute for Life & Care.
Mary Ann Van Buskirk , MDiv, MA, LMFT, LPC. Mary Ann loves making connections—between people, events, history, stories, patterns, and daily living. As a systems therapist, she uses the metaphor of the mobile used over a baby's crib to describe how moving one piece will effect the whole mobile. For Mary Ann, the mind-body-spirit connection is essential in her work as a pastoral counselor integrating spirituality and psychology. Mary Ann is mother to daughters Amy, Maggie, and Lily.
Mary Ann has over thirty years' experience as a leader, trainer, speaker, counselor and author. She is a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC), Clinical Member in the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (AAMFT), and a Diplomate in the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP). She earned her MA and MDiv degrees from St. Thomas Theological Seminary in Denver, and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado, and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in South Dakota. She specializes in relationship counseling with individuals, couples, families and groups.
